Who is Barely Knotty?

About Me

Hi, I’m Shelbi. I’m a mama, maker, and dreamer who found peace (and a whole lotta sawdust) in woodworking. A few years back, I started creating wood mosaics during my recovery journey. What started as a way to keep my hands busy quickly turned into something deeper—it became a reminder that broken pieces can be made whole again, and that even the roughest scraps have beauty worth bringing out.

Life’s thrown me a curveball or two. There was even a time I had to walk away from my tools and start completely fresh. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: sometimes losing everything you thought you needed makes room for the things you were meant to build all along.

When I’m not in my shop, you’ll usually catch me on the ballfield coaching my daughter’s softball team, sneaking off to the beach for a little saltwater therapy, or on my Harley enjoying the open road. Family keeps me grounded, creativity keeps me moving, and this business keeps my heart full.

About Barely Knotty

Barely Knotty was built on the idea that every piece of wood—and every person—has a story worth telling. I create geometric wood mosaics, reclaimed wood art, custom family name signs, and laser-cut designs that are equal parts timeless and personal.

The name “Barely Knotty” tips its hat to the character of reclaimed wood. Every knot, crack, and grain carries history. Instead of hiding those imperfections, I highlight them. Because let’s be honest—those little quirks are what make a piece stand out.

What you can expect from Barely Knotty:

  • One-of-a-kind designs. Every mosaic has its own personality and story.

  • Custom work made just for you. Whether it’s a family name, a gift, or a centerpiece, it’s built to last.

  • Southern charm in every cut. I bring a touch of homegrown warmth into each project.

  • Quality and care. Every piece is handmade with pride (and probably a little coffee).

At the end of the day, Barely Knotty isn’t just about hanging pretty wood on a wall. It’s about creating heirlooms, conversation starters, and artwork that feels like you.
